Give GPT dots creative tools
Let your dot work with RunAPI image, video and music tools through local skills on your connected computer. Keep your ChatGPT assistant and its external tools in one workflow.
On my connected computer, follow https://runapi.ai/skills to install the RunAPI skill for the media model I choose. Sign in to RunAPI through its documented login flow. Show me the model inputs and current price before submitting a generation. After I confirm, create the task, wait for completion and return the output link.
Connect dots through local skills
-
1
Connect your computer
Open your dot’s profile in the ChatGPT app on your computer. Under Computers, find Your computer, select Allow access and confirm. Keep the computer online and the ChatGPT app open. Local skills require this connection.

2
Install the skill for your model
Open the RunAPI skills catalog on the connected computer, choose an image, video or music model and follow that skill’s installation instructions. For example, the Suno music skill uses the command below. Ask your dot to use the installed local skill.

3
Sign in to RunAPI
Use runapi login on the connected computer and complete the browser sign-in flow. Follow the selected skill’s authentication instructions. Your RunAPI account and usage balance are separate from your ChatGPT subscription.

Review, generate and collect the result
Ask your dot to inspect the selected model’s inputs and current price. Confirm the request before generating. For asynchronous media tasks, wait for a completed status and retrieve the output URL; a submitted task is not a finished asset.

Choose the right creative tool
Browse the live catalog for available models, supported inputs and current API prices. Capabilities depend on the skill and model you select.
Your assistant, its model and its tools
OpenAI documents dots as powered by GPT-6 Astra. Adding RunAPI tools does not replace that underlying model or provide the complete dots product through an API. This guide uses local skills, not a custom dots model URL or an undocumented MCP settings screen.
OpenAI · Meet dotsDots subscription and API usage are separate
Your ChatGPT plan controls access to dots. RunAPI bills the external API work you request according to the selected model’s current pricing. A ChatGPT subscription does not include RunAPI credits. Check the model catalog before creating a task.

Dots is OpenAI’s proactive assistant in ChatGPT. OpenAI also calls an individual assistant a dot. GPT dots, OpenAI dots and ChatGPT dots refer to the same product here.
This guide does not configure model replacement. It adds external creative tools through local skills on a connected computer while dots keeps its OpenAI model.
RunAPI provides model APIs and media tools. Calling a model API is different from using the full dots assistant, its memory, connected apps and ongoing tasks.
Local skills require a connected computer. Keep that computer online with the ChatGPT app open. Dots’ cloud computer is separate and does not automatically inherit your local tools or logins.
No. These instructions combine OpenAI’s public connected-computer and local-skills documentation with RunAPI’s public skill and CLI documentation. Check the linked sources for your account’s available features.
